40 Years of Teaching

Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. Deuteronomy 8:2

It was a time of testing – 40 years of teaching his people so they would trust and obey his commands once they entered the Promised Land. Why spend so much time on the lesson? Because it is the most critical thing you and I will ever learn—not obedience, but trust. God used 40 years, 40 years of going nowhere to teach them that he would always provide, always forgive, always push. Look back on your life. Do you remember difficult times? Do you see how God used those to make you stronger? Thank him now for loving you so much to discipline you so.
