Luke 16-17, Proverbs 14

The wise fear the Lord and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure. Proverbs 14:16

This proverb struck me because of the different descriptors used for the wise and the foolish. The foolish are described by their actions and fears; the wise are described as those who fear God. People often ask me what they should do because they are Christian. Your faith is not based on your actions but your “fear” of God. Your recognition of God’s place in your life is what marks you as a Christian. That comes as you realize the condemning nature of your sin and the wonder of God’s grace that he would die in your place. Before you ask God what you should do today – fall on your knees before him in worship. That is wisdom.
