This is what you are to do to them: Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones, cut down their Asherah poles and burn their idols in the fire. For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. Deuteronomy 7:5-6
This may perhaps be the greatest sin of today—not that we reject God, but that we put him on the same shelf as other aspects of our lives. God told his people to get rid of all the gods of the people whose land they were going to take over. Why? Because God knew the danger that they would be tempted to find value in those gods and forget there was only one reason for their success—GOD. Today people’s lives are filled with so many things from work to hobbies to entertainment. These are not necessarily bad, but they destroy us when we have no time to worship (personally/corporately) because we are too busy with those things. One blessing of the pandemic is that so many things have been taken away we have had time to focus on the meaningful. God chose you—don’t make the mistake of letting the things you choose squeeze Him out of His place in your heart.
