Amos 2-5, II Peter 1:12-e

Does a trap spring up from the ground if it has not caught anything? When a trumpet sounds in a city, do not the people tremble? When disaster comes to a city, has not the Lord caused it? Amos 3:5b-6

Is a five pound robin fat? These are the types of analogies tossed out by Amos. Then he gets to the bottom line—when disaster comes, know that God is behind it. Is God responsible for slavery or the holocaust? Should we blame God for tsunamis or tornadoes? No, but none of these occur without God’s allowing them to happen. And He only allows such things to happen to bring the world to recognize Him, His power, His love. Amos said the root cause of their suffering was their turning away from God. Don’t make that same mistake.
