Distractions

Ezekiel 12-15, Matthew 13:44-e

Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? Matthew 13:55

There is danger in distraction—I should know as I am easily distracted. When people looked at Jesus and saw him as coming from the family of Joseph and Mary they could not look at him as the promised Savior. I do not think we are much different. We see Jesus as an historical figure, as the answer kids give when asked about God or as the one we turn to when things are falling apart around us. These are all well and good, but when I define Jesus in such ways I forget that he is the one who sacrificed his life for me and that he is the one working in me to change my heart to become like his.

Dear Jesus, be all of who you are that you might shape and mold me to be who you have created me to be. I cannot understand you, but I can surrender my life into your hands. I am yours. AMEN.
