Just as a nursing mother cares for her children, so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well. I Thessalonians 1;7-8
We are family. That is the beauty of the church, because family trusts one another and sticks together. In this chapter Paul writes as an authority figure, but he speaks of his role in terms of a mother (vs.7) nursing her children, a father (vs.11) and as a sibling (vv.7,17). As family, we not only share a common ministry – we are connected. As Paul writes, we share “our lives as well.” (vs.8) It is when I look at all of you in this way that I see the wonder and power of being God’s church—the family of God. May we never forget that we are family only because our brother, Jesus, sacrificed his life on the cross to save us. That is how much our heavenly FATHER loves us.
