God Protects the Guilty

Otherwise, the avenger of blood might pursue him in a rage, overtake him if the distance is too great, and kill him even though he is not deserving of death, since he did it to his neighbor without malice aforethought. Deuteronomy 19:6

God protects the guilty. You might say it is his nature. He established cities of refuge for those who accidentally (involuntary manslaughter?) killed someone. And he created enough cities of refuge so the guilty party might get there quickly enough before some “avenger of blood” catch him and kill him. I appreciate that about God—especially since I am one who is guilty. God never excuses the taking of life, but he does work to protect those who are sorry for their sins. Our refuge is Jesus, who died in our place – the innocent sacrificed his life for the guilty – that we might be free. I love God
