It was not with our ancestors that the Lord made this covenant, but with us, with all of us who are alive here today. The Lord spoke to you face to face out of the fire on the mountain. Deuteronomy 5:3-4
It was almost four decades after God had given them the 10 Commandments at Mt. Sinai. All those who were adults when the Commandments were given had died except for three. And yet, Moses points to this audience and says God had spoken, not to their ancestors, but to them (“us, with all of us, who are alive here today”). God has a way of doing things for us, speaking to us, long before we were ever born. He saved us from slavery in Egypt, gave us the 10 Commandments, and died on the cross to save us from our sin. God is still doing things for you today. He loves you that much. Pause for a moment to thank and praise him. He likes it when we realize the depth of his love for us.
