God Wants Love--Not Fear

The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 13:3

.

This chapter is not about obedience to God—it is about your love for God. Do I obey the Commandments because I love God or because I think doing so will make my life better. I think, more often, we kind of follow God, but we follow other things as well (gods, money, friends, etc). God raises the stakes in this chapter telling the people to destroy those who would lure you away from Him. Would you do that for the God you love, or would you find ways to minimize or excuse away God’s directives. Unfortunately, I probably do this every day. What about you? How much do we love God? There will be a test today. Are we ready for it?
