Revelations 6-8, Psalms 131, 135
They are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. Rev. 7:15
Every year I ask myself the question, “What is there I can preach about that will help people remember what Christmas is about and why it is so powerful?” The temptation is to try to “WOW” the people into coming back to worship next Sunday. Every year I have to stop thinking like that and reflect on what makes this such a powerful moment for me. I am often surprised by God’s simplicity. My joy is that God would “shelter me with his presence.” The wonder of Christmas is Immanuel (God with us). And if I ever think this is not such a big deal, I consider what would happen if ever I faced a situation and God were not there for me. Join me at the manger this year (wherever you are) and celebrate that in the birth of Jesus God has come to save us.
