(This week I read Mark 15:42-16:8.)
Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where he was laid. Mark 15: 46-47
Joseph put himself at risk to ask for the body of Jesus from Pilate (vs.43). He did so out of respect and to give honor to Jesus for the life he had lived. I imagine there was significant financial cost for him to purchase the burial cave for Jesus’ body. (Had he known of Sunday he could have saved himself some money.) Consider the lengths he went to so he might honor Jesus. We know the tomb is empty. We know Jesus is alive. May it not be said of us that we honor Jesus less. Worship Jesus. As I fall to my knees before him, may I never count the cost – unless it is the price HE paid to save me. He is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
