No one born of a forbidden marriage nor any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the Lord, not even in the tenth generation. Deuteronomy 23:2

I don’t know why God chose these examples (read vv. 1-6), but it is evident that people who have messed up their own lives or messed with God’s people were not welcome in worship. Only those who are right before God are welcomed into the assembly. That being the case we are all in trouble. There is no church where everyone has done right before God. We are all a bunch of sinful misfits. I am so thankful for a later Word that God gave to us – Jesus. Rather than ban people from worship for their sins, God chose to let Jesus take on himself our guilt. Because of Jesus we are welcome before God. Because of Jesus we are no longer offensive. Thank God for Jesus. I am just sorry for what He had to suffer to save me.
