Joy of Our Lives

Rejoice in the Lord! Philippians 3:1

Paul has just written how we are to give ourselves to serve one another in the name of Jesus. Now he shares one of the greatest lessons he had learned in life—to find joy in Jesus! This is not like I enjoy steak one night but would like chicken the next. This is to get rid of everything else for a diet of pure Jesus. This is the joy Paul proclaims that would have him gladly get rid of everything else in his life if that would help him to know Jesus more. Each of us has shelves of things in our lives from hobbies to friends to property. If your shelves were to be cleared and only Jesus was left, would you have joy? Think of it this way—if you could fill up your shelves with all that you ever wanted and Jesus were taken away, could you be happy?
