Knowing My Place

Act 18:18-20:5, 1 Corinthians 1, Psalms 70, 71

Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. I Corinthians 1:17

We preachers work hard to preach well. We try to string together words and ideas to communicate God message for those listening. St. Paul said he did not preach with “wisdom and eloquence,” because he wanted people to be captured by the gospel of Jesus Christ—not Paul’s fancy words. Thanks, Paul, for the reminder. I pray the next time I share the gospel I keep it simple and trust the word to change lives. It changed mine!
