One Place -- One People

You are to seek the place the Lord your God will choose from among all your tribes to put his Name there for his dwelling. Deuteronomy 12:5

Four times in this chapter God tells the people he would designate one place for the people to go for their prayers and sacrifices (their worship). Why is that so critical? The only way unity can be maintained is if the people have one place they call home. The tabernacle/temple gave a focal point for all the people to say, “this is WHERE we believe.” It wasn’t the building it was that they gathered at the one place. We still need that. We still need to identify with other believers. We still need to gather, to worship together, so we can see one another and support one another as family. I think that has been one of the most difficult things of the COVID-19 pandemic – it has isolated us in so many ways. We worship one God, but I pray that we love the church where we worship and the people (our brothers and sisters in Christ) with whom we worship.
