Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Deuteronomy 5:16
Parenting is not easy. And while it may take less of your time, it does not get easier once your children are adults. When our children are young we see their mistakes. When they are adults we see our own mistakes. God did not make parenting about perfection (as parents or as children) but about order, authority, trust AND love. I remember telling my daughter once that I did not know if I was doing the right thing, but I was the father and she was stuck with my decision. The above commandment is the only one that comes with a promise. I believe it is because order, authority, trust and love mark our healthy relationship with God. In parenting we seek to model and teach our children the most important lesson in life—to be a child of God. What do you think?
