Refuge for All

Determine the distances involved and divide into three parts the land the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, so that a person who kills someone may flee for refuge to one of these cities.

Deuteronomy 19:3

God established for three cities to be designated as places of refuge. This was to protect those who accidentally killed someone else. These would not be a place of protection for those who willfully murdered someone. I love that God works to protect the innocent, but I am not innocent. No, I have not murdered anyone, but I have willfully done many things wrong. I thank God that he has provided a place of refuge for the guilty like me—Jesus. I am so grateful that Jesus pours out his grace on me and declares me to be holy – innocent again. And I don’t have to drive anywhere to find this refuge—I just ask for mercy and Jesus forgives. Whew!
