Stay Humble--Love Generously

Supply them liberally from your flock, your threshing floor and your winepress. Give to them as the Lord your God has blessed you. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you. Deuteronomy 15:14-15

Those who had slaves were to release them in the seventh year. This coincides with releasing people from their financial debt. Not only where they to give their slaves freedom – they were to generously provide supplies for them. Why? It helped those they released to get a fresh start AND it served as a reminder of their having been slaves before (when all Israel had been slaves in Egypt). It is good for us all to remember how we have been helped by others in our lives. Now it is our turn to help someone else. You and I were slaves once – slaves to sin, but God set us free. Be generous!
