That Would Be Insane

When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire. Deuteronomy 18:9-10

Who would ever leave the Christian faith to practice a religion where their children would be sacrificed? That is just crazy – but some of the Israelites did just that. Why? I don’t know. It may have been the promise that Molech (a god) would provide rain for crops that were burning up in the drought if they would sacrifice a child. Not every family would have to do it—just one family in the village. It still sounds absurd, but they did it. What foolish things have you tried so that your financial, family or whatever other problems might be solved? Have you prayed to the lottery god, hung the divine crystal in your car or left Christian values behind to fit in with those you want to count as friends? God sends us out to change the world—not to conform to its ways. That is why spend time with Jesus every morning – to remember whose I am and how blessed I am.
