The Main Thing

They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not? Mark 12:14

Jesus is the “main thing” in Christianity, but I often lose sight of that. They posed a question to Jesus on taxes, but it had nothing to do with taxes. They wanted Jesus to create enemies by his answer. I have heard Christians argue that we shouldn’t pay taxes to a corrupt government. I have argued about styles of worship or how the church should make decisions. Pretty dumb, huh. None of those things matter – only Jesus. Lord, help me to keep my focus on Jesus as the only thing that matters. Then help me to soak up everything word he speaks to me. AMEN.
