Truth and Lies

Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people. For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. Jude 3-4

I wish we could say you just need to love Jesus and be nice. It would be nice if the faith were that simple, but there is evil in the world and it finds its way into our lives and in to the church. Jude warned the people about such people who had “secretly slipped in.” How do you combat evil—especially when it puts perfume on so you it seems good? Remember that evil operates on lies, so you need to immerse yourself in the truth. Read and study the Bible. Take advantage of opportunities to learn more through ministries of your church. Give yourself to learn, to challenge and to grow. And always know that if Jesus is not at the center of something—let go of it.
