Beauty from Ugliness

You must purge the evil from Israel. Deuteronomy 17:12

I only hear this term, “purge,” with eating disorders. It seems a harsh way to rid oneself of food. But it really isn’t about the food. There is something wrong with us, that requires us to take strong action. In this case it is to get rid of those people who showed “contempt for the judge or for the priest.” I don’t like to admit it, but there are parts of me that need to be purged. Therein lies the beauty of Jesus. God once took violent action against himself to “purge” the effects of sin from our lives. His death on the cross was God kind way of purging. It was a tradeoff – His pain for our gain. I think purging is ugly and gross, until I see the purging that took place on the cross. That is ugly made beautiful. That is the only purging that works. Let Jesus take away your guilt—your sin, and make you beautiful.
