Don't Blame God

When such a person hears the words of this oath and they invoke a blessing on themselves, thinking, “I will be safe, even though I persist in going my own way,” they will bring disaster on the watered land as well as the dry. Deuteronomy 29:19

We have all made promises we did not keep. Some of those promises were never intended to be kept. In this passage God warns his people against making promises to him that they have on intention of keeping. We may be able to fool the church, but God is never fooled. He knows our thoughts and our intentions. His warning? It is that those who reject God’s way for their own will bring “disaster” upon themselves. You will not be able to keep all your promises to God, but please do not be so foolish as to make promises you have no intention of keeping. Be honest with God and yourself. We worship a forgiving God, but forgiveness first requires repentance.
