God's Generosity--& Ours

You may require payment from a foreigner, but you must cancel any debt your fellow Israelite owes you. However, there need be no poor people among you, for in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance, he will richly bless you, if only you fully obey the Lord your God and are careful to follow all these commands I am giving you today. Deuteronomy 15:3-5

Take care of one another as fellow Christians. The generosity spoken of in this chapter is not meant to be a mark of your goodness but of God’s. Forgiving the debt of those who were in need every seventh year allowed for people in need to get a fresh start and for God to show you how he would “richly bless you.” Give God the opportunity to make you rich—be generous (especially with fellow believers).
