God's Memory

Do not despise an Edomite, for the Edomites are related to you. Do not despise an Egyptian, because you resided as foreigners in their country. The third generation of children born to them may enter the assembly of the Lord. Deuteronomy 23:7-8

The Edomites were descendants of Esau, the twin of Jacob. The Egyptians had taken in the Israelites when Joseph was a high Egyptian leader. God remembers his promises (to bless Esau, though Esau did not get the blessing as firstborn son) and those who are generous (Egyptians for giving Israelites a place to live – though they later enslaved them). I appreciate God’s memory used to bless us. I also appreciate that when he forgives – he forgets. It is a great combination that works to our benefit. Thank God for his memory and his forgetfulness.
