As part of your equipment have something to dig with, and when you relieve yourself, dig a hole and cover up your excrement. For the Lord your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy, so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you. Deuteronomy 23:13-14
This is about more than hygiene. It is about respect for God. I appreciate God’s giving a plan for their restroom facilities, and their carrying shovels for this was a good practice for cleanliness. It is a reminder to us of the importance of considering every aspect of our lives – is it decent or indecent? Do our lives (every part of them) welcome God, or are there parts we might prefer to hide. We like to think of God as being there to protect us 23/7. Then let us live to honor him 24/7. That includes thoughts, words, and actions. I can think of a few things now I need to clean up.
Jesus, I can’t just bury my sins, would you please forgive me . . . then help me to do better today? Thanks!
