The God of the Forgotten

I have given Esau the hill country of Seir as his own. Deuteronomy 2:5

I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as a possession.” Deuteronomy 2:9

Esau was the brother of Jacob who was not chosen to be the one through whose line Jesus would be born—even though he was the oldest son. Lot was only the nephew that Abraham took under his wing. One might call them bit players in the greatest play ever acted out. But there are never bit players to God. He had given them land and blessed them. While the Children of Israel were stuck in the desert for 40 years, God commanded them not to cause any trouble for the descendants of Esau and Lot. God does not toss people aside. I like that about him. Somehow it makes me feel safer, no matter how small I might feel in the moment.
